Google Day 3
Goals for the day
To continue researching about scholarships
To research how to win scholarships
to wrap up my project
LINKS
http://www.bookrags.com/articles/42.html
http://www.scholarships.com/
Today I applied to a scholarship to learn everything from the process. They even asked me for my you tube account. It said that is really hard to win a scholarship. After applying to the scholarships I instantly received a notification that 2 colleges were interested in my resume.
When applying to scholarships they ask you your ethnicity, phone number, religion, political ideas, your college preferences, they ask everything so you have to be ready.
I also learned about two new types of scholarships.
The school based individual scholarship,
which is a scholarship normally handed out by a school to a person that has done a good thing and the need based scholarship which is a scholarship handed out to people that have low income.
For next Google day I want to know why it is important for schools to see your Facebook link.

Then comes the category of fun scholarships.
The academic scholarship is for people with a high GPA. This scholarships are handed out to raise the average GPA of the college and make it earn some prestige.
The athletic scholarships are handed out to people that are good at a certain sport. They do this because the biggest college revenue is sports.
The minorities scholarships are handed out to smart people from other ethnicity The colleges do this to have diversity in their campus. The same is with women scholarship.
There is also a scholarships for being good in a art. This scholarship is called the creative scholarship. This are normally handed out in schools that concentrate in art like Kent, of Julliard.

Today I learned there are many different types of scholarships and many different ways to earn them. Even for being a lefty you can win a scholarship. This scholarships are given out to promote a company or college and to improve the revenue of a college.

Google Day #1
Goals: My goals are: Choose a topic for my project, Get started to my project, Contact a member of a college staff to get info on my topic.
http://www.campusexplorer.com/college-advice-tips/38916397/20-Top-Questions-to-Ask-a-College/
It gives me ideas for my Google 20% topic
http://www.phoenix.edu/about_us/contact_us.html
http://www.bu.edu/contact/
Here I can contact universities
TOPIC: Why do universities give scholarships?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athletic_scholarship
http://www.collegeconfidential.com/dean/archives/athletic-scholarship-for-div-3-athlete.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Collegiate_Athletic_Association
http://www.madescholarships.com/en/athletic-scholarship
this links give me information about my goal
New Info
(most of my time was spent with the collegue counselor asking questions about scholarships)
The athletic scholarships are regulated by the NCAA
The colleges give athletic scholarships because its a good publicity, and even though its hard to believe the universities highest revenue is from sports.
Why is this?
Well sports is one of the biggest sources of entertainment, specially in the us. So they want to invest to receive from donations etc....
The highest revenue in 2008 was over 123,000,000 dollars, JUST IN FOOTBALL.
My question for next class is: why do universities give academic scholarships.

COPA and FERPA
COPA and FERPA
What I Know?
Nothing that's why I choose this topic.
Questions?
What is COPA?
What is FERPA?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_Online_Protection_Act
http://www.virginia.edu/registrar/documents/FERPA-parents&students.pdf
what I learned
FERPA is the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act
COPA is Child Online Protection Act
Copa was created in 1998 and it passed but it never took effect and in 2009 it was rejected.
FERPA's main objective is to protect students rights, privacy and information
It also requieres the school to keep the students info disclosed until 18 years old.
How it reflects on my life.
This is usefull to me because now I know I can protest when somebody violates my school privacy and I can go to the law to sue. I am also sure and confident my school wont give out my information.
Question
why wasnt COPA succesful.

Design Project Day-3
Define Review:
Define Phase:
The game will be for elementary, targeted for boys.
The difficulty of the game will be hard within the elementary standards.
Addictive, Innovative, Familiar elements, Challenging, design and professionalism.
My game is following all those specifications, because it has elements that attract boys.
The 2 most powerful ideas are that it involves soccer and it is multiplayer.
The only idea we want to remove are the midfielders because they take up a lot of space.
Implement
Me: Birng the paddles
Mateo: Arena
Felipe: The ball and assist with the arena.
The other supplies are already here.

Design Project Day 5
2. Our biggest problem was that we didnt know how many players we should have in our game. If we had to many it would be very hard if we had to little it would be very easy. To solve it we just added 4 players assuning it was the best # of players.
3. Our biggest aha idea was in the first day. It was making the machine a soccer machine. This was a great idea because kids love soccer.
4. The person who resisted the most was no one. All our decisions were unanimous without trying to convince each other. We all had great ideas like a soccer and a multi-player game.
5.My doubts were that how can a cardboard machine me successful that it was going to be a fail. I overcame this doubts after reading more about the kid in the us.
6. No one played devil as I said everything was unanimous.
7. I learned that the more teamwork the better the quality. In my team there wasnt so much teamwork but in other teams were there was teamwork the machines were great.

design project day 2
Phase 1:
WE think that Felipe's prototype is the best because it has the most detail and has the feeding tube. It needs the walls surrounding the goals and the players as obstacles.
Our prototype was bad. We had the most feedback which means it was the worst. The only good things were that it involves soccer, and it is multiplayer. The things to be improved are the hitters and the ball. Also have more realistic players.

Addictive, Innovative, Familiar elements, Challenging, design and professionalism.
Research Phase
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRq955hPWxM
This is wack-a-mole its that awesome. This game involves many skills and you enjoy it a lot because it involves reflexes and physical movement. As soon as I saw it I was like AWEASOME.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cEWELoxEsY
I don't like so much the game what I like is the fact that you can change the difficulty level.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJWF-nyZFvk
It's awesome, its a pinball machine I Just think its awesome people play pinball everyday, and you can add a theme to make it even better.
Ideation Phase
With brainstorm we instantly agreed on the same idea. It's going to be a wack-a-mole, but it's going to have a theme, SOCCER, so it's going to be even more fun. FAIL ms Shawn just told us that's going to be a bad game because we have to be present.
Other idea where the coin dozer and a pinball machine.
So we are going to make a pinball machine the theme is going to be again soccer. It is going to be real vs. barca.
It's going to be fun because it will be challenging, familiar, have a good design, addictive. It will be about soccer and you can cheat, another fun thing that's new its that it's going to be multiplayer.
Problems
Falling apart the solution is duck tape.
